I have been at Riley now for almost 10 years, in a few different roles, and I truly have never felt so heard, cared for, and supported by a leader. Thank you for all you do, Robin!
I know I speak for many members of the Riley GI team when I say that Robin is one of the best bosses we have ever had. We are so thankful for her in so many ways. I want Robin to be recognized for the hard work she puts into keeping the GI team running so smoothly! Robin is a fun, trustworthy, hardworking, compassionate, and invested leader.
Our team is made up of over 20 nurses, over 20 MD's/APP's, 7 MA's, and many more. In such a big department, which works out of at least 9 different locations statewide, Robin is able to lead us confidently into the future, through ups and downs and changes. She frequently asks for true feedback from us. She wants to hear our thoughts and opinions, takes our comments very seriously, and tries to implement actual changes. She has had us fill out surveys regarding our thoughts and has even started checking in with each team member in 1-on-1 meetings, outside of yearly evals.
One way that Robin has supported our team this year is by getting approval to hire a pharmacy tech to help with prior authorizations. Robin heard the nurses when they said that it was frustrating that so much of our time was spent on the phone with insurance companies, doing PAs, and she was able to think outside of the box for a way to help. And what I really respect about this decision was her willingness to ask what could be improved upon, her thinking outside of the box about ways to improve our workflow, and the communication from Robin about this decision and the reasons behind it every step of the way.
Robin has made it a priority to have regular staff meetings, as well as department-wide events for team bonding. She worked hard to get approval for an off-site event last year that brought members of the team together who may not have otherwise gotten to interact face-to-face. Having a boss who prioritizes events like this outside of work makes all the difference in the world to how we interact and treat each other inside the office.
We encounter so many changes that almost seem to come daily, but I truly feel that Robin does an amazing job keeping this huge team updated with all the changes coming our way, and how we can best navigate them. We get emails from Robin regarding changes, and she keeps a Teams page updated with forms, policies, and other helpful information so we can all easily access this information. As the manager of GI nursing in two locations, Riley downtown and IU North, Robin divides up her time to make sure she presents in both locations to support both groups.
I have had leaders in the past work from home more often, but seeing Robin's face in the office and in the OR and in meetings, and at trainings is very reassuring for us. Robin frequently hops into staffing and helps out in the OR when needed. Equipment breaks, technology doesn't always work, and things change, but we know that Robin is on our side.
She advocates for us. She communicates openly with us. She treats us with respect. She encourages us to support one another. She creates an environment of learning and camaraderie. She leads by example. I have been at Riley now for almost 10 years, in a few different roles, and I truly have never felt so heard, cared for, and supported by a leader.
