Nurse O'Toole stayed with me the entire time, comforting me and explaining what was happening step-by-step.
I am 72 and have had several minor problems with tripping in my home. Well, it finally happened and I took quite a fall in my bedroom. I don't know what I hit when I fell, but I was sure I had hurt my arm. I put ice on it and waited but the pain persisted. I wondered about what hospital to go to but since it was about 3:00 am, I thought I would wait. I had been to TOH for two surgeries and thought I would wait until they open. When I looked online, I was happy to see that they had an emergency room. I drove right down there and was greeted by nurse O'Toole. She helped me check in and made me comfortable in a room. She stayed with me the entire time, comforting me and explaining what was happening step-by-step. I felt like I was visiting a friend. The X-ray came and went. The medicines were made ready. The doctor arrived. I don't think I have ever been in such pain as when the doctor set my arm, but the nurse was very comforting and before I knew it, I was in a splint, given my medicines, and a lot of support as well as concern. I watched nurse O’Toole set up an appointment for me with the doctor for later that morning and she just took care of all the details and paperwork. I was there for probably 3 hours or so and it was all a seamless process. Before I knew it, I was back home. Later in the day, the doctor was greeting me and sure I would need surgery. After an X-ray, he stated that the other doctor had done such a fabulous job setting my arm, I would not need surgery. What a relief! I am all healed now and so grateful for the professional, dedicated work of nurse O'Toole and the doctor. I'm so lucky to have been treated by them both - thank you very much!
