Robin made sure he was bathed, moisturized, and on fresh sheets. He rested well that night and was so excited to have his family visit the next day.
When I think of an Extraordinary Nurse, the person to come to mind is Robin Denny. When I think of what kind of nurse I want to be when "I grow up" it is Robin. She is one of the most compassionate and caring nurses I have had the pleasure of working with. One example, of the remarkable care she gives to her patients, stands out.
We had a patient who was in ICU for months as a result of COVID. The patient ended up needing a trach and eventually was strong enough to communicate his needs to us. Robin wasn't the patient's primary nurse that night, but she took the time to find out what he needed and essentially gave him a spa treatment. The patient told Robin that he felt dirty and unkempt because he had been unable to have his hair trimmed. Robin took the time to wash and trim his hair, she trimmed his beard. The patient even asked her to take care of the nose hairs bothering him and she did. She made sure he was bathed, moisturized, and on fresh sheets. He rested well that night and was so excited to have his family visit the next day. The extra time she spent with him that night made all the difference to him. Robin will always advocate for the patient and their families.
Robin is a nurse we all look to for advice and direction. She is the backbone of the ICU. You can always count on Robin if you have a question, she will answer it and if she doesn't know the answer- she will help you find it. She is a wealth of knowledge with years of experience to draw from. When I see Robin's name as our team leader or as a staff nurse I am comforted in knowing that the unit will run smoother.
