Robin exemplifies what nursing should be: compassionate, competent, steady, and deeply human.
Robin was a familiar and steady presence during both the delivery and recovery of my sons. During my emergency C-section with my first son, Robin’s humor and calm confidence helped ease my anxiety in the OR that night. In a moment that felt overwhelming and frightening, she brought steadiness and warmth. The following night, she was the first person who helped me learn how to move safely. She patiently taught my husband and me how to care for me and our newborn. She played a significant role in how smooth my recovery was.
With the delivery of my second son, a scheduled repeat C-section, Robin once again went above and beyond. Although she was not my assigned night nurse, she came to assist my nurse in getting me out of bed for the first time. She was a steady hand, guiding me through those vulnerable first movements after surgery. Her kindness and patience immediately put me at ease.
The following day, I had lost control of my pain and was in tears when she came in to take my vitals. I was scared to move and overwhelmed by the intensity of the pain. Robin dried my tears and calmly walked me through my options and the pain management process. She ensured I understood what medications were available and how they would help. She properly fitted my abdominal binder and was instrumental in helping me regain control of my pain during her shift. She also took time to help with my newborn, who was struggling with gas pains that were interfering with nursing. Robin has a remarkable way of offering guidance that never feels condescending, only supportive and empowering. When she said she would return, she did. When I called, she responded quickly. I never once felt like an inconvenience. Robin exemplifies what nursing should be: compassionate, competent, steady, and deeply human. Every postpartum mother deserves a Robin.
