One of the clearest memories was of Robyn reassuring me and encouraging me when I was in labor and then helping me hold my baby for the first time.
Robyn was in at least every 30 minutes to check on me. She changed my wet sheets several times, helped me turn over and reposition frequently, and went above and beyond to make me (and my husband) comfortable. Shortly after she arrived on shift she came in to sit down with my husband and me to explain in detail what would happen, what we needed to know and reassured us. As a nurse, I was familiar with birth but I am not an OB nurse and had never had a baby. She understood, and (without being condescending or impatient) helped me understand anything I wasn't familiar with. My husband was especially grateful that she took the time to specifically address his role in the birth of our daughter. She explained exactly what was going to happen and talked to him about the ways he could help, this made him feel involved and helped to calm his nerves.
A few hours into her shift, I went from comfortable and 5 cm to 10 cm in one hour. Robyn took the time to assess me thoroughly and monitored me and baby closely. She notified the doctor of my changes and advocated for me. I know Robyn was supposed to get off work at 23:00 but she stayed past her shift until I had my daughter and had a chance to hold her and recover a little. That meant so much to me because of how much I had come to trust her and because of how encouraging she was. One of the clearest memories was of Robyn reassuring me and encouraging me when I was in labor and then helping me hold my baby for the first time.
Robyn was also our nurse in Mother-Baby the next day and, again, was so kind and helpful - giving tips and tricks to help us with our adjustment as new parents. She encouraged and instructed my husband in caring for our daughter, again sitting down with him and taking time to answer all of the many questions. When she saw that my husband was especially anxious to go home, she helped us complete the checklist right away and went over discharge instructions in order to expedite our discharge. Robyn is one of the most competent and caring nurses I have ever encountered, she goes above and beyond for her patients, she is a true DAISY Nurse.
