During a patient video appointment, the patient appeared to be very sad, crying, admitting to feeling confused, had difficulty sleeping, was walking all night, fearful, had problems eating, and was paranoid. The patient informed me that he was scared and did not want to be alone as he did not know what will happen in the next minute. When the patient was asked to call 911, he refused and appeared to be scared. I contacted Rochelle Hamiel for help, and she was able to call the patient and convince him to come to the Emergency Room. Rochelle also informed him that she would meet him in the ER. Upon his arrival to ER, Rochelle met him and spoke with the triage nurse and he was admitted. The patient was very thankful for the intervention. This example demonstrates how Rochelle has performed her role as a nurse. She goes above and beyond her role to help everyone. Rochelle works very well with her team to maintain a patient-focused environment and provides excellent care. Her empathy and compassion for nursing are evident. She truly cares for the Veterans and their families.
