I would like to nominate an extraordinary nurse who provided exceptional care for my son during his recent hospitalization for pneumonia complicated by hypoxia.

I was scared and overwhelmed, but Nurse Ron transformed a terrifying experience into one filled with reassurance, trust, and genuine compassion. I was thankful Ron was our nurse for the first two-day shifts of our multiday stay at Nemours.

From the very beginning, he demonstrated remarkable clinical expertise. He remained calm, confident, and highly attentive while managing my son’s oxygen needs, carefully monitoring his condition, and responding quickly to even subtle changes. His skill and attentiveness gave me a deep sense of comfort during a time when every alarm on the monitor was frightening. I was equally impressed at Ron’s ability to precept a student nurse with admirable patience while continuing to deliver outstanding care. He modeled professionalism and dedication, taking the time to teach, explain, and guide without making anyone feel like his attention was divided.

I was physically and emotionally exhausted. Ron recognized that and took the time to sit and talk to me about the resources available to me as a parent through Nemours. He listened to me without judgment and did not make me feel as though my feelings were not valid. I am truly grateful for his unwavering compassion. Nurse Ron embodies everything a DAISY Award represents: clinical excellence, compassion, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to patients and families. I will be forever grateful for the care, comfort, and dignity he provided to my son and our family during one of our most difficult moments.
