We had a critically ill patient in the Emergency Department with one of the worst upper GI bleeds I've ever seen. Blood was pooling in the bed as quickly as we were transfusing. Ronnie’s care was impressive and inspirational to the team. The rapid infuser was not working correctly because the peripheral lines were too resistant. He single-handedly was drawing donor blood with a syringe and pushing it into the patient's IV. Ronnie never left the bedside. He delivered poignant, quality care to a patient who would have succumbed without him. I can honestly say, while I put in the orders to direct the patient's care, it was Ronnie who saved the patient.
