When my brother was in a horrible motorcycle accident, my world and the whole family’s world turned upside down. My brother survived, but his spirit and bones were broken. Nurse Rosa came into his room to help with an IV. My brother had both arms wrapped and very little room for this. My brother felt defeated, his arms hurt to move. She came in and gently (and successfully) put an IV in his wrist. She held his hand as she hooked up medicine. She sat at the bedside for a while. No one else had sat by him yet. She watched the medicine run and when she got the ‘OK’ from my brother that the IV didn’t hurt, she smiled. And there it was – our first little victory! Thank you, Rosa, for reminding us that healing is a journey, a process, a marathon of one tiny victory after another. We never saw her again. Please thank her for us. Your presence was healing.
