There was a situation where a patient came to 5 West and was scheduled for an appointment for Pre-op in the Cardiology clinic. He was quite upset because he thought he was there to have his ICD interrogated. He was told that there would not be an opportunity for this since his consultation was for a different reason and there was not a Device Rep scheduled to see him. Rosalyn was notified of this. She did some research for this patient. The veteran was indeed due for an interrogation. She came and spoke with the patient about how getting a Device Rep to come unscheduled would be a challenge. She worked diligently to accommodate this veteran's request and was able to get a Device Rep to come to see this veteran, so he would not have to travel back for a different visit. Rosalyn has a very calm and reassuring demeanor.
I have witnessed first-hand the compassion that she has for our nation's veterans. There are numerous veterans who have come to our area speaking her praises stating that if it wasn't for her, they wouldn't be alive. Rosalyn takes time to explain the patient's condition to them and their options. Often times, patients' understanding of their care gets lost in translation, but she has been a champion for the Cardiology department in assisting veterans with understanding their implanted devices, loop recorders, etc. She has also been of great assistance in Non-VA care consults, making sure pertinent information is provided to the providers in order to continue to facilitate care to our veterans. She has been invaluable to the Specialty Clinics as well as to the Cardiology department. She is always willing to help out especially when staffing is low and there is a need.
