Rosanna partners with patients and families directly as the first point of contact when calling the Missouri Poison Center. She provides the latest evidence-based poison and toxicology advice, often enabling families to avoid trips to the emergency room or urgent care.
Rosanna’s 48-year career at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon has made a considerable impact on patients, families, and the many disciplines she has partnered with. She fosters growth in students and newly hired individuals, as well as being able to coach up seasoned veterans. Rosanna has proved RNs have a place in the highly skilled, specialized field that assists emergency departments across the state in triaging and caring for toxicological emergencies and exposures. Rosanna advocates for patients in her daily work assisting with getting them to appropriate care and encouraging medical practitioners to follow poison care best practices and algorithms. Rosanna is a liaison between patients and the medical team as she advocates for patients while partnering with practitioners for exceptional care. As a leader, Rosanna's role is to take accountability for her team. She developed this ideology as the head nurse in the Emergency Department, sharpened it as a clinical coordinator, and holds true to that in her current role, knowing she is responsible for giving the most accurate and appropriate recommendations to medical practitioners at the bedside. To eliminate poisonings, Rosanna engages the public, bringing preventative exposure educational programs to communities. She is a valued participant on research teams where she analyzes data and trends to keep parents apprised of the current threats to our children. Rosanna serves as an expert resource for emergency medicine practitioners as they care for persons experiencing a poison exposure emergency. She is an integral part of the care team who eagerly investigates the most challenging situations. She not only follows up out of concern for the patient but also to evaluate processes in her continual quest for improvement and positive patient outcomes. Her dedication and compassion to serve all children, combined with her innate motivation and capacity to acquire and apply knowledge, have consistently propelled her to the top in each of the various clinical settings she has entered during her career.
