I just had a hysterectomy this morning. I could hear Rose as I awoke. She was rushing around, getting an abdominal binder for me and checking on how I was doing. She always rounded on me and asked about my pain. She helped me decide on which medications would be best for handling my pain with fewer side effects. She answered my questions. She did not leave my side until she knew my pain was managed. I never had to ask for help. She was right there, anticipating my needs. Her kindness and competence were extraordinary. She fed me ice chips, she cleaned me up, she placed the abdominal binder, she coordinated with my family and kept them informed. She was wonderful.
