I would like to thank one of our nurses and share my story of why this nurse is so special: Rose works down in the ER where unfortunately patients of all ages can be held for any length of time. I have seen Rose handle many situations with a wonderful sense of humor, empathy, and unconditional compassionate caring. This is not just for patients but is extended out to her fellow co-workers.

I had recently seen these wonderful qualities in action with a patient who was here in the ED for an extended time. She went above and beyond to try to give this patient a feeling of normalcy in a place that is far from normal. She talked with this patient and found out what they liked or were interested in. She went out and bought this patient a fish, brought in a ukulele, and offered the patient lessons on her day off because the patient wanted to learn how to play guitar. She was able to identify things that bothered the patient and recognize antecedents prior to this patient escalating. By doing this she was able to help the patient recognize these things and work with the patient on skills that helped them de-escalate. It is this kind of nursing that goes above and beyond that should be recognized. She truly works hard to improve the health and well-being of our community. The actions that I have described above show how dedicated she is to aspire and achieve the highest standards of care for our patients.
