I am an elderly female, and I was a patient at Augusta Health Emergency Department. I received excellent care from everyone involved with my treatment, but one person went far beyond her usual duties. That person was an RN identified by her name tag as Rosie.

I had come to the emergency room by ambulance, so when I was getting ready to be discharged, Rosie asked me how I was going to get home. I replied that when I had been there two years ago for a Covid-related issue, I had been taken home by a hospital vehicle, and on a following visit, also Covid-related, the hospital arranged for a ride with an independent carrier that operated in the area. Rosie informed me that both of these services were no longer available. I replied that each of my children lived two hours away so that was not an option and that there was really not anyone else I could call on.

Rosie said that the nearest ride service was in Harrisonburg and that a ride with them would cost 60 dollars, and she wouldn't like for me to have to do that. She then said she would use her standing Nurse's Uber service for me at her expense and generously refused to let me pay her. I did know about Uber, but not how it operated. I have since learned that Uber is a cell phone app and my son has now set it up for me for any subsequent use.

In addition to arranging for a ride, Rosie escorted me to the hospital pharmacy to pick up my prescription and waited until I paid for it and then on the vehicle Emergency Department entrance to wait for the Uber driver. I think to me sure I connected with the right person.

Rosie didn't have to do any of these very helpful things for me as they were all outside of her nursing duties, which she performed in an exemplary manner. I so appreciate her kindness and thoughtfulness.
