Mum entered Creaton Ward for palliative care and we were kindly given a side room for the last days of her life.
We were lucky enough to be met by Rosina, a ray of light in a terribly dark time. Quiet and unassuming, the first thing she did was to touch Mum (who was not readily visibly conscious) and tell her how she was pleased to be spending time with her, and that she was going to do all that she could to make her comfortable.
Then she looked each of us in the eye and told us how special our mum was and that she was privileged to meet her.
From that moment we felt safe in her hands. Without exception each time we looked for Rosina she was there. Words of reassurance or treatment to be given, it didn't matter, whatever help we needed she sought to give.
Her devotion was tangible. The 2 days we were nursed by Rosina she did not leave the ward for the entire day and one day she was an hour and a half late leaving, and the other almost 2 hours.
One day she had no break at all, clearly exhausted, but determined to be on hand.
She came in to check on Mum at least every hour, and always checked that we relatives had eaten or had a drink despite not having either herself.
Our special time with Mum was made special due to the extra efforts of all on Creaton Ward, but especially the angel Rosina, whose concern extended to the wider family unit.
