I am a high school student that participates in clinical rotations with this hospital. I was in the ED and was assigned to Rowena. I have had past experiences with nurses who made me feel like a burden to teach and more of an assistant rather than a learner. I was not treated with respect as a future healthcare professional but rather as an annoyance and out of place. With Rowena, it was a different story. She was kind from the start and was so happy to be my teacher for the 2 hours I was there. She let me do hands-on skills and walked me through every step of her care plan. I felt like I belonged there, and she had open arms to welcome me into this experience. Through those short 2 hours, I left there confident and comfortable. Rowena was an angel and drastically boosted my self-esteem about my future career choice. She made me realize that I wanted to be a nurse and inspired me for future endeavors. I wish the absolute best for her!
