Roxy could sense the fear, so she went over to the patient, sat down at his level, touched him, and calmly talked to him.
Roxy is the epitome of a nurse. She is the glue that holds us all together. She is one of the most compassionate and kind nurses I have ever met. Every patient, every interaction, every day is met with a nurse who is positive and empathetic. She comes to work every day with the mindset of how I am going to make someone smile or feel better. She loves being a nurse, she goes out of her way to help her colleagues every single day!
I remember talking with a family member of her patient one day and he could not stop singing her praises. She was not only compassionate to both the patient and the family member, but she took the time to help him set up his phone for Uber. She not only set up the Uber to home but arranged for the Uber to stop by the pharmacy. The patient and family member were able to get their prescription and get home all in the same ride. This was an older couple who weren't tech-savvy. But Roxy made it all possible and the couple was so grateful that someone went out of their way. This is just one of many stories.
There is another story where a 3-year-old came into the ED because he needed stitches. The child was screaming and crying with just the presence of the doctor in the room. Roxy could sense the fear, so she went over to the patient, sat down at his level, touched him, and calmly talked to him. Within minutes the patient was calm and settled down. The parents were stunned and happy to see such compassion for their child.
Roxy has the ability to calm situations down and still have the patient/families have a wonderful patient experience. Roxy is sensitive to the needs of the patients and their families. She's able to plan, implement, and evaluate the treatment of the patient with efficiency, dignity, and empathy. In fact, Roxy has been nominated several times for our WOW AWARD, at least 10, for the compassionate and exceptional care that she provides to her patients and families. She is truly one of a kind and a DAISY Nurse.
