This nominee exemplifies what it truly means to be a nurse. They consistently role model leadership, empathy, and dedication to excellence in patient care. The nominee goes above and beyond in providing compassionate care to patients and their families. Their empathy and understanding make a significant impact on the well-being of those under their care. During clinical (Fall 2023), the nominee provided care for a patient who had just been told there was nothing else that could be done to ensure a physical cure. The patient, spouse, and grandchild were devastated. The nominee gave the family some time together but promised to return after lunch to provide personal care. After lunch, the instructor and student returned to the patient room. This was the BEST afternoon of clinical. The nominee provided EXCELLENT patient care, emotional and stress relief for the patient and family members. There were happy and sad tears. The nominee provided education about personal care for discharge planning and answered many questions from the patient's spouse. The patient's spouse hugged the nominee and thanked them profusely for the awesome care provided to the patient, stating, "We really needed you today. Your presence made the difference today."
