Ruby is a manager who leads by example. From the beginning, Ruby has been present at many of the infection control task force meetings in support of patient safety improvement initiatives. She not only assigned staff to attend the IC task force but has ensured that her staff can attend on a regular basis. She was the first one to volunteer to try the female external catheter in 2016 with remarkable success. She is constantly raising the bar for health care acquired infections and other quality and patient safety outcomes in her unit by motivating her staff to actively participate in process improvement projects. She is present on her unit and her staff knows they can come to her with questions and concerns. Ruby takes patient safety personally and is passionate about doing the right thing for every patient every time. She has managed to instill the same passion in her charge nurses. Her staff finds Ruby approachable, proactive and someone who truly cares about her staff. It is an honor and pleasure to work with Ruby. She is a great example of what a good leader should be.
