I was rushed to Northwest Texas Hospital on Sunday. I don’t remember much about my trip to the ER, except I had an Extraordinary Nurse by my side! Her name is Ruie Melenski! Nurse Ruie is kindness personified!! Nurse Ruie is the person who explained to me I needed more care than they could give me. The X-Ray of my lungs showed a massive Saddle Pulmonary Embolism, and that they needed to airlift me to Dallas and admit me to Baylor Scott & White. It was then that Ruie placed a small silver and blue angel necklace in my hand and told me to hold it tightly during my trip to Dallas. They were going to airlift me to the hospital. Nurse Ruie then told me there would be a great nurse on board to care for me, and care for me until I got to my destination. I believe Nurse Ruie’s compassion and kindness helped save my life. I was given a 2-5 percent survival rate. I am here today and doing well. I want to nominate Nurse Ruie Melinski for the DAISY Award. She was truly God’s gift to me. I now wear this angel as a necklace. I’ll wear it forever.
