"Observing Russell with patients and their families makes me want to be a better nurse," his colleague said. "What stands out to me the most is his bedside manner and compassionate care."
She also relayed the following example of how Sigrist's clinical skill and human compassion have a positive impact on patients and colleagues alike. A patient arrived unresponsive in the Emergency Department. A recent history of substance abuse suggested overdose as a possible cause. But Sigrist, who has an intensive care unit background, sensed there was more going on. He was right; the patient was having a stroke. With a quick and accurate diagnosis and expeditious evaluation and treatment, the patient made a full recovery.
"I have been a nurse for 20 years and have truly never seen another nurse like Russell," said his colleague.
