Her level of Commitment is evident in all that she does. She recently developed a comprehensive Patient Information Packet for SCI/D patients and families.
Ruth Gilhooly is an LPN who has been at the VA for 28 years. She has worked in the Lake City (LC) Spinal Cord& Neurology Clinic (SCI/D/&NC) since 2018. She constantly demonstrated ICARE Values and goes above and beyond her duties. Ruth maintains heightened Integrity by safeguarding the privacy of her Veteran patients and colleagues daily, monitoring overall clinic processes to ensure others do the same.
Her level of Commitment is evident in all that she does. She recently developed a comprehensive Patient Information Packet for SCI/D patients and families. The folder is sturdy, with graphics that visually represent our clinic’s focus. It includes a basic information guide, which she also created, which provides key staff names, phone numbers, email addresses, and contact information for the associated PVA Representative, medical Advice line, and Telcare. A direct scheduling tool for other specialty clinics, a resource guide for the SCI/D Program, VA Video Connect and My HealtheVet instruction guides, and a site map complete the packet.
Ruth is a true patient Advocate. A female Veteran told me today how thankful she was for Ruth assisting her last week by Respectfully reaching out to pharmacy to have her antidepressant overnighted so she would not run out.
Another young SCI Veteran and his parents voiced their overwhelming thanks for Ruth’s recent rush to action. On a Friday morning, the patient's mother called stating he had one day of Pregabalin left and that they were very worried he would seize or have a pain crisis. Ruth again, respectfully contacted LC and TOPC pharmacies to coordinate the medication being picked up at TOPC that day, the crisis was averted, and this action saved the family a 2-hour drive.
Ruth is a vital component of our team and demonstrates Excellence in practice always. She continually works to improve personal and clinic performance and provides the highest quality of care possible to our X patients. I feel fortunate to work with her every day and can think of no one more deserving of recognition than Ruth.
