I would like to recognize Ruth Kovacs as a nurse for the DAISY Award for the compassionate care she provides her patients and families. Ruth shows exemplary care and compassion for all her patients. She takes the time to explain the plan of care and any procedures throughout the day. This consistent communication helps put her patients and their families feel at ease. Ruth always displays a calm and reassuring demeanor no matter what the situation. She is without a doubt a calming force.
Ruth shows how much she cares about the dignity and comfort of her patients through her daily interactions. She takes extra care to clean and neatly tuck in her patients in the ICU setting, whether the patient is awake, sedated, or intubated. I recall a time when an ICU patient was expecting family members to visit that she hadn't seen in a long time. Ruth helped the patient bath, then went the extra mile to by washing and putting the patient's hair up. She even helped the patient put on some makeup to help her feel better, even though she was in ICU. You could tell by the smile the patient displayed, it made a difference. Ruth gave that patient the extra special attention she needed! By doing this, it also makes it more comforting for families traveling from far away to see their loved ones well taken care of.
Finally, patients and families often tell Nursing Leadership how much they appreciate the extra care and calm, consistent communication Ruth gives them. They too recognize that she's not only an excellent clinical nurse, but she also has a very loving, calming demeanor.
