Ruth Prospero, RN

I am truly honored to nominate Ruth for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary compassion, clinical excellence, and dedication she demonstrates every day on the KPSF ICU night shift. Ruth consistently goes above and beyond to provide exceptional care to critically ill patients during some of the most challenging hours. She is calm under pressure, clinically astute, and proactive in identifying even the smallest changes in her patients conditions. Her attention to detail and commitment to patient safety are truly outstanding.

No matter what role Ruth is assigned, whether providing direct patient care, serving as the break nurse, or acting as the resource nurse, she consistently exemplifies excellence. She approaches every responsibility with the same level of professionalism, attentiveness, and dedication, ensuring both patients and fellow staff are fully supported. Her flexibility and reliability make her an invaluable asset to the KPSF ICU team.

What truly distinguishes Ruth is the compassion and humanity she brings to her practice. She treats every patient with dignity, kindness, and respect, ensuring they feel cared for not only physically but emotionally during vulnerable moments.

She is especially impactful when caring for Spanish-speaking patients and families. Ruth ensures clear, compassionate communication, helping bridge language barriers so patients feel understood, safe, and included in their care. Her ability to connect with Spanish-speaking patients fosters trust, reduces anxiety, and significantly enhances the patient and family experience.

Ruth also takes the time to support all families, offering reassurance, clarity, and empathy during difficult and often overwhelming situations. Her presence provides comfort not only to all of her patients but also to loved ones navigating critical illness.

In addition, Ruth is an invaluable team member. She is always willing to support her peers, share her knowledge, and contribute to a positive, collaborative environment on night shift. Her reliability, teamwork, and quiet leadership truly strengthen the entire unit.

I am honored to work with Ruth every day. I do not say this lightly: I would feel extremely safe having her care for myself or any of my loved ones, including my kids.
