Ruthie has been exceptional in just the few short hours we have been here. She has gone above and beyond to make sure my daughter and I are as comfortable as possible. She is a phenomenal nurse, and could not have picked a better profession. She is genuinely a warm hearted, caring, and nurturing person. I feel as though she treats all of her patients like they were her own child, I certainly know she has treated my daughter as such. She makes the whole experience of being admitted to the hospital, as comfortable as it possibly can be. Her attitude is very reassuring, and she gives you that boost of confidence that you need in times like these.
She even takes her own time, to cut and decorate the little stickers that hold the O2 cords in place on a child's face - hearts for the girls, and baseballs and soccer balls for the boys. My 6-year old's stuffed animal Zebra has a matching IV in its hand, just like my daughter's. Ruthie really takes pride in her job, and in making sure each of her patients are well taken care of.
She has explained absolutely every single thing she has done, in great detail, and in a way we can understand, not just medical lingo. I honestly feel like this lady is an Angel in disguise, a breath of fresh air, and a saint. She is so humble, gentle, and kind. Last time we were here my daughter was poked 9 times, by 3 different nurses, to try to get her IV started, tonight Ruthie got it 1st try, and my daughter didn't even realize the needle had gone in, not 1 tear shed.
I really feel like if anyone should receive a nomination for the DAISY Award, it should, without a doubt, be Ms. Ruthie. No nurse, from here on will hold a candle to Ruthie in my mind; my expectations are now too high! She is an amazing nurse, and St. Joe's is blessed to have her as part of their team.
