My sister has been a cancer patient for the past 18 months, and it has been very aggressive, but she insisted on seeing the beach again. We were on family vacation in Mobile, AL when, unfortunately, my sister took sick. She was taken to a hospital in Mobile, where she was told she would need to have emergency surgery but would need to be transferred. We were so thankful we were able to bring her home, and to Methodist Germantown, where she was admitted to 3 South.

Instantly, Ruthie took charge. She took note of our special family situation and brought an energy I can't quite describe. It was an energy to be trusted, as she showed true professionalism. Ruthie was absolutely instrumental in advocating for my sister, putting her, the patient, at the center of every discussion, doing what she could to always make sure my sister was comfortable, and doing so very thoughtfully.

Due to her pain, she was placed on a pain pump. However, the location of the IV made it difficult for my sister to get into a position where the machine wouldn't start beeping after a small amount of time. Again, Ruthie came through for my sister, putting her at the center of everything. She worked with the doctor, who agreed to use the port she has because of her chemo treatments instead of the IV site. This was exactly what my sister needed. She was peaceful and comfortable.

A day later, my sister was transferred to another room where she ultimately passed away, but Ruthie was the angel we needed, and I am so thankful that God sent her to us. We will never forget her!

Thank you, Ruthie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
