Ms. San Antonio provides support to families and works with them to address their concerns, fears, problems, and options.
An ICU nurse like Ruthie Endozo San Antonio is extraordinary in terms of rendering care to a critically ill patient like Ms. N, who came to our institution all the way from Batangas with Glasgow coma scale of 6/15. If you were in Ms. San Antonio's place, you need to have the courage to render care for the patient who was also a COVID suspect at that time.
The patient was intubated, GCS 6/15, with NGT, with Intrajugular catheter on the right neck, with Transcutaneous Patch, with FC-HCB, with Norepinephrine drip, Insulin drip, Precedex drip, and post Cardioversion for three times. These updates and information were shared by Ms. San Antonio with the relatives for better understanding and decision making.
At the ICU, we have multidisciplinary team rounds where all healthcare members involved in the care of the patient will do their rounds in the morning to set goals for the patient and in the evening to reassess his or her condition and to check the management plan for the night. Nurses will give their input (head to toe assessment) since they are the ones who stay at bedside most of the time. We schedule MDTC for the family to keep them updated on what is happening to the patients, their status, and treatment plans for them. At this trying time, I think COURAGE and the LOVE to SERVE were the admirable attributes of Ms. San Antonio.
Ms. San Antonio provides support to families and works with them to address their concerns, fears, problems, and options. She is gifted with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
She is meticulous in the sense that she makes sure that she renders care to the patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with The Medical City's philosophy and Mission and Vision.
