My son required emergency surgery due to an injury. Immediately after surgery, he was alone without friends or family. He woke up with a large fixator on his leg. Ruthie was so positive and bright while she was in the room with him. She used sports as an ice breaker and encouraged him to look at his fixator as a positive instead of a negative; it was extremely impressive! She suggested that he take a photo of his fixator so he would remember and indeed as it turned out, it's something he looks back on to remember how far he's come.
Ruthie's smile was infectious, and she was such a pleasure to have around. She was motivating and inspiring while remaining warm and compassionate. We airlifted back home a week after his surgery and along the way, many nurses later, I realize what an angel she was in those initial important moments. She was able to comfort him, cheer for him, and help him keep his spirits up during one of his darkest moments. I told Ruthie I wish I could bring her home to stay with us on this journey. She's special - we all need a Ruthie in our life! I was so impressed with UCHealth's entire team, I can't thank everyone enough, but Ruthie went above and beyond to comfort my son. I'll forever be grateful to her!
