Ryan was my night shift nurse. After my surgery, he gave me care well beyond any expectations for someone as busy as he was. I ran into a complication with my heart rate going dangerously low, mostly due to obstructive sleep apnea. I was at 10+ on the pain scale. Ryan had to monitor me much more than usual. I was unable to receive normal doses of pain meds as my heart rate would plummet to 32. Ryan advocated for me to receive any pain management under these circumstances. At the same time, I was having a lot of problems with my IVs infiltrating my veins. Two incidents happened within minutes of each other. Knowing my discomfort and difficulty obtaining new IVs, he promptly had a vein specialist start a new one the night before surgery. He always talked to me, explaining things very well. Ryan exhibited enormous compassion and skills. He got me through a couple of my worst nights. I feel blessed to have had him as my RN. I can’t speak highly enough of him, and he certainly deserves recognition for going above and beyond in patient care.
