Ryan Atbin, BSN, RN

Ryan is deserving of this nomination and award due to his willingness to go “above and beyond” for every patient that he encounters. However, recently, he had a pediatric patient who identified as transgender and was moved to his section of patient rooms. The previous nurse mentioned they were confused. However, Ryan took it upon himself to have an open discussion with both the mom and the patient to ensure the appropriate pronouns and preferred name(s) were being used by himself and other staff members. With Ryan’s care, making the patient and their family comfortable is vital to provide excellent care, it is NOT an afterthought. Ryan serves as an example to others and fellow staff members of the importance of being present and attentive to patients within the LGBTQIA+ community. Ryan’s compassion and empathy do not know boundaries and are consistently expressed to all patients he encounters, regardless of their culture, ethnicity, race, etc.
