Ryan is fairly new to the CPS role but not a new educator and mentor. He joined us in 2025 from NMH and quickly built strong relationships. His ability to collaborate and engage the team has been heavily recognized by staff, leaders, and interprofessional teams.

He is certified in his specialty of focus. He is approachable and warm, always greets with a big smile! His “Let’s Try It” mentality says that he is willing and eager to collaborate with the team and interprofessional departments.

He goes above and beyond to not only support the ED team but also the PPD team. He partners with the CPS team seamlessly and is eager to learn workflows and processes outside of ED and critical care specialty.

Ryan, along with ED leaders, prepared education and simulation for all the ED staff moving to the new pavilion and space. This took a heavy amount of time, outside usual business hours, to prepare and scope. All while maintaining usual meetings, onboarding, and education. He is eager to work any hours and days of the week to meet with staff (this is often when I suggest boundaries, but Ryan maintains his priority with the team)

What stands out most about Ryan is the way he shows up for people. He has a calm, steady presence that brings comfort even on the busiest, most stressful days. Staff describe feeling “supported” when he’s around, not just clinically but on a personal level. He listens fully, without judgment, and you can tell he genuinely cares about the person in front of him. His compassion isn’t something he tries to demonstrate; it’s simply who he is.

Ryan has a natural ability to explain things in a way that makes sense, even when the topic is complex. He communicates with clarity and patience, and he does so in a way that makes staff feel respected and valued. Whether someone is brand-new or highly experienced, he meets them exactly where they are. You never walk away from a conversation with Ryan feeling unsure; he gives you the confidence to move forward.

He leads by example in everything he does. Staff look up to him because he consistently models professionalism, integrity, and kindness. He encourages personal and professional growth in a way that feels uplifting, not pressured. Many nurses have expressed how much they’ve grown with his guidance, not just in skills, but in confidence and as professionals.

Ryan is also incredibly adaptable; he embraces changes and finds ways to support staff through the transition. If a teaching method isn’t landing, he adjusts it on the spot. If the unit is short-staffed, he jumps in clinically without hesitation. His flexibility and teamwork have made him someone we rely on every day.

Beyond his day-to-day role, Ryan truly loves learning, and it shows. He constantly seeks out new knowledge, best practices, and opportunities to improve, and he brings that excitement back to the team.

Ryan played a pivotal role in the success of the new ED opening, not only in leading the education and training efforts, but also in supporting the setup, coordinating the move, and assisting staff throughout the entire process. His presence, leadership, and reliability were essential to ensuring a smooth and well-executed transition.
