I nominate nurse Ryan and his preceptor Katie for the DAISY Award. I have had quite a journey here at Centegra, but even though I have had complications, the care has been beyond what I expected. I think everyone should be commended, but when I looked in my folder, these nurses keep jumping up in my mind. Ryan was my nurse in the ICU. I know he was in training because he shared that with me and he had a nurse with him. Other than that, I would have thought he was already an experienced nurse. I had complications after having stents in my legs and needed about 10 units of blood. I know I caused a lot of heart ache for the nurses and doctors, but I am so thankful for them all. It was Ryan's compassion, sense of humor and relatability that got me through my time in the ICU. Although it is a busy place, I never felt like he was rushed or that I was rushing him. I have asked my daughter if we could bring him home! One situation comes to mind that I saw tremendous professionalism. Ryan needed to confirm with his Guardian Angel Katie, if he was doing a procedure correctly. He didn't hide the fact that he needed guidance and I commend the nurse who he works with on the way she guided him. I have heard that sometimes people say nurses eat their young. I think that is an awful saying, and I never saw that happening. I was thankful for them both, we need to recognize them for choosing the right profession and making a difference.
