Ryan's caring and supportive nature during this patient’s stay impacted the patient to the extent that the patient identified a safe place to call for assistance during a crisis.
A patient called into the unit seeking help for thoughts to self-harm with a knife. Ryan Kilbane worked quickly and resourcefully to ensure that the patient and sister were supported while on the phone line to stay safe as he sought immediate assistance from Tampa Police Department to conduct a wellness check. Ryan also assisted TPD by recognizing they had not preceded to the correct residence to perform a wellness check and assisted them to proceed to the correct residence to render assistance. The patient was brought to the hospital for safety; Ryan's immediate response and therapeutic approach impacted the safety of the caller and sister with immediate crisis intervention techniques to minimize harm. His quick responses and ability to multi-task fostered obtainment of help from law enforcement to prevent potential harm related to suicidal ideations. He continues to serve in his full-time position within our health system. His caring and supportive nature during this patient’s stay impacted the patient to the extent that the patient identified a safe place to call for assistance during a crisis. We are fortunate here to celebrate a nurse whose therapeutic rapport impacts patients both in and out of the acute care setting.
