Ryan very calmly did exactly what was needed, watched the many monitors, and was able to communicate exactly what had happened to the physicians. His calm, expert care couldn’t have been better!!
Ryan’s skill, knowledge, and calm, compassionate care are outstanding! We have been extremely blessed to have him as my husband, M’s, nurse. M was transferred to Mayo Clinic via helicopter after having bilateral knee surgery at another facility. He had a cardiac event there and required CPR. You can imagine my (his wife's) fear and panic. Ryan’s care in patiently answering my million questions has helped tremendously. He explains things in terms we can understand and patiently answers them again when, because of feeling so overwhelmed, we don’t remember what he said. He even explains and answers questions for my granddaughter, who is an ICU nurse, in another state. (She is not with us but texts questions as she wants to know all about Grandpa’s care, lab values, etc.) This morning, when M was helped to a sitting position on the side of the bed, he got sweaty, extremely pale, and lost consciousness. I was so very scared! Ryan very calmly did exactly what was needed, watched the many monitors, and was able to communicate exactly what had happened to the physicians. His calm, expert care couldn’t have been better!! A little later when the physician came into the room and talked about transferring M to a medical floor, Ryan stood up for his patient and told the doctor he didn’t think that was wise. Once again, I was so thankful for Ryan. When Ryan doesn’t have expertise in something, he is not afraid to say so. Because my husband is in the cardiac unit, and Ryan’s expertise is in cardiac, not orthopedics, he has been communicating with orthopedics regarding M’s new knees. He has also been working closely with the physical therapist. Another way Ryan has been excellent is by telling me ahead of time when an alarm will go off so I don’t panic. For example, he knew that the IV alarm was going to go off (indicating the bag was empty), and if he couldn’t be in the room just before it did, he wanted me to know it was nothing to worry about. I truly am thanking God for Ryan and highly recommend him for the DAISY Award.
