I am a RN in the Emergency Dept. and fairly new to Grady. There is a big push in the ECC to get patients to the floor efficiently and effectively while continuing the most effective care. The hand off can be stressful as the ECC has many patients waiting, while floor nurses also have a heavy load. Today, I had the best experience as hand off was given. I called the nurse's station to give a report and was transferred Rylen in a timely manner. She was eager to receive the report and was positive and cheerful with her words. The patient had two outstanding orders that were due in 30 minutes after the report was given. I was very busy and usually try to complete all orders prior to the patient being transported. Rylen was accepting of the orders and offered to do them when the patient arrived on her floor. In just one conversation, a joyful and engaged listener had such an impact on my work day today. It provided a smooth transition to the floor. Her work ethics and positive attitude was much appreciated by me.
