I would like to begin by saying that sometimes it’s not a specific situation that makes a nurse stand out and deserve special recognition, but what they do and the care they provide overall. Such is with Sabina Gjonbalaj on 3 South. Sabina distinguished herself on my most recent visit through her constant attention to all our care. She was constantly receiving calls for her medications and other requests yet never lost her positive attitude and when needed in a special situation handled it in the highest professional manner expected. When I needed special attention with my falling blood sugar, Sabina cared for my needs and made me feel as though I was the most important patient she had. Then when my situation was handled she was off to handle other needs just as pressing without missing a beat. Her professionalism and dedication not only to her job but to her patients makes her an extremely valuable asset not only to her patients but to the hospital as well. She displays the true meaning of what a nurse should be…caring, giving, understanding and supportive to the patients entrusted in her care. I truly feel that the DAISY Award was created for just such a nurse as Sabina.
