Sabrina then sat with my sister and me for several hours after her shift ended and listened to stories about our father, held his hand, and comforted us during this time
Our father was admitted to the medical floor. He was scheduled for a paracentesis the following day. On the morning of the procedure, when they came to take him down, Sabrina felt that something wasn't right with our dad and told them she wanted the doctor to check him first. Once the doctor checked him and blood work was done, it was determined that he was bleeding into his abdomen due to his cancerous tumor. Had Sabrina not truly seen our dad, he wouldn't have survived the procedure. Due to her quick thinking, the family was called in and we were given the chance that so many others don't have. My sister, myself, our stepmom, stepsister, his grandson, and sonĀ in-law were all able to spend precious time with him and he was given the opportunity to say all of his goodbyes. My sister is a nurse and Sabrina allowed her this time to just be a daughter. She wasn't looking to my sister for direction or input, she just let her grieve and be with her dad. This was invaluable. Sabrina then sat with my sister and me for several hours after her shift ended and listened to stories about our father, held his hand, and comforted us during this time. By then, our dad was resting peacefully and we were preparing for the end. Our dad passed away on Saturday at the Shenandoah Hospice House.
