She exhibits an excellent balance of leadership and collaboration in her interactions with her team to ensure they provide the best care. She engages team members in evidence-based improvement projects, striving for the best patient and staff outcomes.
Sabrina Gorton, Nurse Manager and now Director of the ED and CDU, models the behaviors and characteristics that we would all like to see in others.  Intentional work to hardwire Lee Health and HealthPark is often observed. For example, she creates and shares newsletters that tie the topics discussed to components of our Professional Practice Model.

Sabrina demonstrates investment in her personal and professional growth: She is enrolled in her MBA to complement her advanced nursing degree and recently achieved Nurse Executive certification. She also significantly invests in growing her team members by sharing intentional challenges and opportunities to tackle while she mentors them through the process. She is conducting a newer formalized orientation process that she created, and she is supporting one of her new managers through the creation of a documented mentor program to help drive retention.

She exhibits an excellent balance of leadership and collaboration in her interactions with her team to ensure they provide the best care. She engages team members in evidence-based improvement projects, striving for the best patient and staff outcomes. Her unit consistently ranks in the 90th percentile or above for patient experience. A rapid assessment zone was recently created under her direction to impact several facets of patient flow and throughput.

Innovative ideas are offered related to practices that extend beyond her own unit, and she is an early adopter of change. Her unit trials initiatives such as Peer Feedback and improved safety interventions (orange flags and bands). Advocacy for best practices in any forum: process development, performance improvement, meeting discussion, is always at the forefront of her mind.

Above and beyond her job description, Sabrina contributes to Magnet document writing and involves her rising formal and informal leaders in the same. She chairs the Manager’s Council and is a Safety Coach, leader, and champion. She also courageously shared her Hurricane Ian experience with hundreds of Lee Health system leaders at our System Leadership Quarterly event (at Barbara B Mann) and through the American Nurse Journal.

Sabrina is a shining example of a DAISY Nurse Leader. HealthPark is fortunate to have her.
