She has created new processes and standard work to ensure the admitted patients are receiving timely care and daily meds just as they do on inpatient units. She has spent countless hours adjusting workflow and again developing standard work to ensure all patients in the ED receive the best care.
Sabrina has grown from bedside ED Nurse to an extraordinary leader of the Cone ED. She truly cares about the staff and our patients. We have faced some truly critical staffing challenges over the past 18-24 months. Sabrina went to bat for this department and secured some of the best travelers we have ever had in the ED. She also staffed the department night after night for 12-hour shifts to support the staff and to support the patients who needed care. She could have easily stayed home and had the charge nurse close rooms, but she NEVER once chose that option; she came and often took double assignments so we could truly care for our community. She leads by example, and the staff is grateful for the dedication she showed during the most difficult times. The ED has also been hit hard with the boarding of admitted patients. This has occurred for many reasons, but one of the biggest challenges is the lack of staff on inpatient floors. With this obstacle, the ED has transitioned into an admission unit PLUS a level 2 trauma center. The volume of patients that come for emergency care is truly nonstop 24/7. We are also charged with taking care of all traumas, code strokes, STEMIs, and all the other critical patients arriving as we are the most comprehensive ED in the community. Sabrina again went to upper leadership and secured additional FTEs that would allow us to provide excellent care to both of these patient populations. She has created new processes and standard work to ensure the admitted patients are receiving timely care and daily meds just as they do on inpatient units. She has spent countless hours adjusting workflow and again developing standard work to ensure all patients in the ED receive the best care. We are so fortunate to have Sabrina as our leader. She continues to sacrifice her family time and time off because of her love for her staff, patients, and this department. As the new processes that she has put in place become part of our daily routine, we will encourage Sabrina to find the life/work balance she deserves.
