All of the nurses who helped me at St. Joseph were professional, friendly, and thorough, but one stood out above all others: Sabrina. Due to a setback from a recent hip replacement, I was readmitted to St. Joseph. I spent the day being treated, x-rays, tests, etc. After a day of treatment, I hurt from head to toe. Sabrina came on at 7:00 pm. From the moment she entered the room, I felt like I was the center of her attention. She struck the perfect balance between meeting my every need and giving me my personal space.

I slept very little that night. It had been a long night of lying in bed, waiting for the night to pass. Sabrina recognized I was having a painful night. She came into my room and just sat with me and talked. We talked about our jobs, our families, things we enjoyed, and our future plans.

She listened the same way, with interest and enthusiasm. She reacted to what I had to say. She really wanted to hear my thoughts, my experiences, and my perspectives.

She passed the night with me and by morning I had a true friend! The fifty years between us was swept away…I have a new friend who turned a long, lonely, miserable night into a night of discovery and joy.
