Sadal demonstrates behaviors that express genuine concern for patients and staff, where she consistently presents whilst caring for patients. She delivers excellent, compassionate nursing care with an emphasis on patient safety. She is an integral part of D3-2 adored by the patients and respected by her peers. She takes the time to get to know her patients and advocates for their needs.
Sadal is a true leader. She serves as charge nurse, preceptor, mentor, resource nurse, current UBC Chair, and a divisional council member. As a charge nurse, she empowers and supports staff to communicate with the multidisciplinary team when there is a challenging situation. Her dedication to work is evident by staying late to help nurses finish their work, or managing high patient flow, Sadal is the person you want at your side when times become challenging. She is an inspiration to her peers and an asset to our organization. She is passionate about addressing nursing practice issues in the huddles that are, inefficient or do not contribute to optimal patient outcomes. She ensures that actions are followed up, for example, we used to receive blood transfusion forms partially filled out from other areas. She took the initiative to create a team to audit forms completely filled prior to receiving or handing over.
One patient stated that "she possesses outstanding skills and attitude. She anticipates and takes corrective action to avoid problems. She is exceptionally caring, compassionate and efficient. Her professionalism is reflected on how she takes care of her patients. I am happy to have her as my nurse."
Another patient said, "I felt so happy about the care provided by my nurse Sadal, I even told my physicians that I don't want to leave D3-2 even though there's a bed available in Hematology unit." Sadal came to know this and she explained that we are a sister unit, the Hematology unit is a specialty area in your case and she was able to convince the patient and the family.
Many patients come back to the unit specifically requesting her to nurse them, that itself, speaks about her excellent patient-centered care she's providing to her patients.
There was an occasion that a float nurse pressed the emergency bell and Sadal immediately attended the call where she was able to provide the basic emergency care to the patient and activated RRT at once, at the same time she stayed with the float nurse till the patient got stabilized. She took the initiative to distribute the float nurse's patients to other staff. Later, Sadal voluntarily swapped to be assigned to this particular patient and the float nurse was assigned uncomplicated cases. This helped in safe quality patient care and lessened the float nurse's stress, anxiety, and frustration in an unfamiliar environment. She spoke to the family later on and she debriefed the incident among the staff members about how to deal with emergency situations.
She worked collaboratively with a team to compile the Gyne care set in order to avoid missing any orders for the Gyne oncology patients since we have many rotating residents. It is built in test mode already and awaiting the approval from the department chair. She is also part of the PI project from our unit's "patient family experience in D3-2."
