Throughout the shift, Saffron supported me as an individual but also supported the whole team.
Saffron was in charge during an incredibly busy night shift on the labour ward. During the shift, we had various high-risk patients, including a lady who was taken to A+E with a cardiac arrest, another lady who had to have a grade 1 emergency C-section, and another lady with a third-degree tear. With it being a night shift, there were limited senior doctors around when Saffron was in charge, and they had to rush off to A+E to look after the most .

Throughout the shift, Saffron supported me as an individual but also supported the whole team. When the cardiac arrest call came in, she immediately told the whole team in a calm and reassuring way and allocated members of the team to go and support. She kept in touch with these members of staff, ensuring that they felt supported. Saffron was kind to all patients, despite being under a huge amount of stress. She always explained to patients what was going on and treated them with the utmost respect and dignity.

She was so kind and was still smiling and reassuring to the lady who had the grade 1 LSCS, despite various other things going on in the background. You would never have known the amount of stress she must have been under. She was also very supportive to all members of staff, no matter their level but particularly a midwife who was newly qualified who had a lady with an abnormal CTG, and another member of staff that lacks confidence and had previously experienced some trauma and the registrar who was involved in a lot of these cases who never seemed to stop, she kept checking that he was okay. She kept making sure everyone was okay.

She was able to communicate with the management team quickly, and although she was put in some difficult situations, she was able to make the best decisions under a lot of pressure. I know that Saffron hasn't been coordinating for a long time, but I really admire her ability to be kind to all members of staff, and her support for the whole team and all of the families should not go unnoticed.
