She made sure to do what she could to keep us updated on his impending procedure and was so incredibly kind and understanding.
My father was brought into the ER on a Thursday. He was having trouble breathing, and it was determined that he had internal bleeding. He had to wait for his blood thinners to be out of his system, which kept him admitted until Monday, when they could perform an endoscopy. Sage Mangiacapre was the best nurse my father had during his stay. The unit was short-staffed, and yet she never made my father or me feel as though she did not have time for him. She went out of her way to get him a new bed when the one he was in was causing him discomfort and was preventing him from sleeping. He is a diabetic and needed to be on a liquid diet with nothing after midnight. I was frantic as his blood sugar kept dropping and rising with the apple juice he was given. Sage got him a preventive glucose gel and came up with an action plan to help him get through the night. She assisted him with removing his pump and regulating his sugars so that they could remain steady and he would not keep dropping so intensely. She made sure to do what she could to keep us updated on his impending procedure and was so incredibly kind and understanding. I was so incredibly worried about my father’s blood sugar as he awaited his procedure, and I am so grateful for Sage doing everything in her power to reassure me. She provided amazing patient care while taking care of her other patients. She should be an inspiration to other nurses, and she is greatly appreciated.
