One story of reference from each nomination exemplifies every aspect of a DAISY Nurse: compassion, patient and family-focused care, patient advocacy, support of all members of the healthcare team, a role model for the nursing profession, critical thinking skills, and passionate about life. This story also demonstrates the type of person and professional that this nurse is.
Having gone through her own personal grief and loss, Sally is there for support of others. The daunting task of fulfilling a dying patient’s and his fiancé’s ultimate wish to be married rested upon this charge nurse one weekend. Her “other duties as assigned” included that of a Wedding Planner this day, and she miraculously coordinated this event. As an active member of the greater Bridgton community, she mobilized people from both within and outside of the hospital into action and made this event take place. On this Sunday she was able to have the town office opened for the necessary paperwork to be signed, and bring in an officiate to perform the ceremony. She offered her beloved personal wedding bands that she always had on her necklace for the couple. This was an amazing gift from the bottom of her heart that changed the lives of a family.
