Sally showed compassion for this patient and went far and beyond what was expected of her.
Recently, Sally was asked to come to SCU to supervise chemotherapy/co-sign for the chemotherapy administration verification being given. The patient reacted to the chemotherapy infusion and Sally was there to assist the patient’s primary nurse in addition to her assignment in the Outpatient Infusion Unit (OPI) [adjacent to SCU] in managing the reaction. Sally stayed and monitored the patient from 10:30 AM to 7 PM. During this time, the patient was transferred to ICCU and Sally went with them to infuse the assigned chemotherapy treatments and continue to monitor the patient through the treatment.
Sally showed compassion for this patient and went far and beyond what was expected of her. Her working day should have been over at 5:30 PM, but she stayed without complaining, to make sure the patient received his treatment. She is completely committed to providing exceptional care to her patients and providing assistance /guidance to other nurses to make sure they feel comfortable providing remarkable care. She made herself available to the SCU nurse and other nurses in ICCU. Her knowledge as a certified oncology nurse made a difference in this situation and every time she encounters an oncology patient in OPI. We are certain that the nurses (on ICCU) caring for this patient felt reassured to know that they have a knowledgeable, professional, caring, and selfless nurse by their side and the patient’s side.
Sally loves being a nurse and she shows it by providing excellent care as in the example mentioned above. Sally exemplifies what a DAISY Award Nurse is and it is our honor and privilege to nominate her to receive this award. This is not the first or only time Sally has given more than what others expect. This day was only an example of how great of a nurse she is!
