Salve is a beloved member of the KP FMC Healthcare team. She is our PICC Line RN Nurse – but is known in the units as a seasoned nurse always willing to help and a valuable resource of knowledge. She brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge that helps our patients have better outcomes and develops our nurses to become better clinicians.
Salve started as a Vascular Access Specialist or better known as PICC RN in the year 1985 in the pediatric unit. Salve was the sole PICC nurse for Kaiser Fontana. She organized the vascular access team in 2003 with the support of Linda Bodell, RN, who was the Nursing Director at the time. Salve helped increase efficiency and improve the quality of care, patient satisfaction and improve patient outcomes. She patiently mentored countless of RNs to become PICC RNs in adult and pediatric care. Being the only full-time and senior staff in the PICC team she did not stay on the sidelines during the COVID pandemic but fought in the frontlines placing lines in ICU, med-surg, and emergency room. The saying "the worth of a soldier is never known in times of peace," exemplifies Salve because she fights the good fight and advocates for her patients through her clinical expertise. As a member of the NPPDC magnet council, Salve has utilized her expertise to help team members review and revise policies and procedures and increase the motivation of nurses to obtain their certifications.
During her service in KP Fontana, Salve has received multiple on-the-spot recognitions for her service excellence – Salve shines as a superstar in her work. In one of the surveys that Salve was recognized for, a pediatric patient’s mom stated “Salve has such compassion and feeling for my child which is demonstrated in her actions. She would sing songs to my child, talk about the Beatles, and made it easier when she placed PICC line and IV lines.” The patient’s mother also stated KP Fontana is very lucky to have such a true nurse.
The Honors/Awards/Recognitions received by Salve throughout her career are:
• Nurse of the Year award in 1993
• Recipient of exemplary performance award in May 1994
• Asian Pacific American Alliance, Los Angeles chapter for outstanding contributions to local Union and American Labor movement in March 1995
• Excellence in Care Host Survey in July 1995 and 1996
• Outstanding individual award in July 1996
• Caring Spirit Award in July 2004
Salve is a remarkable nurse, and she exemplifies the VALUES of Kaiser Permanente Nursing. She provides EXCELLENT care, with INTEGRITY and COMPASSION; she is a TEAM player, extremely PROFESSIONAL, and keeps the PATIENT AND FAMILY IN THE CENTER of everything that she does.
