Sam always took the time to play with Z past the time she needed to be in his room for "nurse duties". Z said she wasn't his nurse, she was his friend. She always took the time to listen to him. One night, she allowed him to unhook the machines to make cupcakes in the family lounge. After we made them, she wheeled him around the floor to allow him to pass them out to the nurses. He had so much fun. It was those times she encouraged fun that made his stay easier. When Z had his cath procedure and was staying in the PICU, Sam even came down on her lunch to play with him. That gesture really meant a lot to us. She didn't just take care of Z but she made sure that we (Z's parents) were taken care of too. She's going to have a special place in our hearts forever and we want to thank her for going above her expected duties as a nurse to make Z happy.
