She believed I could do this and helped me believe it, too, making me feel stronger than I ever thought I could be in this situation.
I cannot thank Sam enough for going above and beyond for me during my labor induction. She was kind and friendly from the moment she took over my care. When my epidural unexpectedly stopped 20 minutes before I dialyzed to 10 cm, I was in major physical pain and realized the fact that I had to have an unmedicated natural birth because it was too late to get the anesthesia team. Sam helped me stay focused and grounded through the pain with positive affirmation and coaching. She believed I could do this and helped me believe it, too, making me feel stronger than I ever thought I could be in this situation. I delivered at 6:15 PM, and Sam's shift ended at 7 PM. Post-birth, I had unexpected excessive bleeding. My doctor could not deliver my placenta and tried to while I held my newborn. I was in immense pain, and Sam held my newborn on my chest as I physically couldn't. It meant so much to see/"hold" my baby, thanks to her help. She was so compassionate, staying beyond her shift to come to my procedure in the OR and be there to greet me and calm me when I woke up to a blood transfusion. She didn't leave the Hospital until 10 pm (3 hrs. past her shift) and had to drive 45 minutes home and take care of her own 10-month-old not sleeping through the night. She checked in with my husband to keep him calm and assure him I would be okay. She is an exceptional, kind, and caring nurse, and I feel blessed that I was put in her care. She made a traumatizing birth experience feel less scary. She deserves this award as she embodies exactly what a nurse should be and shows how much she truly cares for the personal well-being of her patients. Thank you, Sam!
