Her compassion for nursing was evident.
After completing registration, my driver and I were escorted to an area on the 1st floor. I provided the receptionist with the required paperwork and took a seat in the waiting area. At approximately 10:00 AM, the receptionist informed me that I should have been advised to report to the second floor. I was somewhat concerned because I was previously told that if I were late for the appointment, the procedure could be delayed or possibly rescheduled.
Shortly after checking in with the receptionist at the Cath lab, I was enthusiastically greeted by nurse Samantha Ayala. She is the reason I’m sending you this e-mail. In my opinion, she epitomizes the characteristics of a nurse - professional, compassionate, highly competent, detail-oriented, patient, humble, and humorous. Her compassion for nursing was evident.
During prep for the procedure, it was discovered that the office had sent over paperwork requesting the wrong site to be biopsied. During the next two hours, nurse Ayala kept me abreast of every update, including:
When the phone calls to the referring orthopedic specialist were made.
A review of medical records found the MRI results for my right ankle.
Waiting for a return phone call from the referring orthopedic specialist.
Cytologists were contacted to ensure availability for the postponed biopsy.
The next available date is if the procedure needs to be rescheduled.
Immediate notification after receiving a call from the referring orthopedic specialist’s office.
Several times, nurse Ayala came to my room simply to make sure I was OK. She made me feel that patient care and my needs were her top priority. Throughout the entire ordeal, her actions and demeanor were reassuring and calming... yes, I was on the verge of a meltdown fueled by frustration.
While I have your ear, I also want to let you know how much I appreciate the care shown by Mitch Gibbs before, during, and after the biopsy. He displayed the most pleasant and professional disposition.
Please express my gratitude to both Samantha and Mitch. They are assets to the medical profession, Princess Anne Hospital, and your staff!
