My father had an unexpected event that caused him to spend five days in the ICU before donating all his organs at 54 years young. Sam is the type of nurse anyone would be lucky to have taking care of their loved one. My parents have been together since they were 12 years old and have been best friends ever since. She took the time to understand their relationship and do everything she could for my mom to make her the last few days with him special.

Sam always went over and above when providing care to my dad and my mom. For example, she even helped my brother and I create a last “date night” for the two of them, my mom got to talk to him, cuddle him, and reminisce about their life together. This is just one of the MANY things she did to go over and above. In addition, she continually used her knowledge to provide top-notch patient care to not only my father, but other patients as well.

Sam is a big team player by consistently checking in with her colleagues and seeing if she could help them out in any way. Sam’s compassion and caring personality exemplify everything that the DAISY Award embodies. She is the most extraordinary nurse we have ever met. She was able to make the worst days of our lives manageable. We cannot thank you enough for taking the time to go above and beyond for our family. Thank you, Sam! We will never forget you.
